Is Delrin Homopolymer actually same thing as POM-C Acetal?
This is one of our most common questions asked by our new and long term clients, and it is a bit difficult to answer. First, all Dupont Delrin is Acetal (POM-H), but not all Acetal is Delrin from Dupont. All Fords are cars, not all cars are Fords. The name Acetal is the common name for the resin, and not all Acetal is Dupont Delrin. Several manufasturers develop Acetal resin, including: Celanese, BASF, Ticona, Sabic and a lot more Globally. The homo-polymer Acetal resin produced by Dupont has the brand name Delrin. The generic Acetal embraces both the homo-rolumer and the co-polymer grades of resin. They are almost the same - Both materials satisfy the basic provisions of the ASTM-D-4181 classification. The Homopolymer is listed under POM 111, and Co-polymer is POM 211. Both of these resins are very tough and eazily machinable, and they are extremely similar physical properties. They seem the same, but in practical use there are a few gaps that may make one better than the other, and it depends heavily on your application. As with all plastic materials, check the physical properties and data sheet for the applicable specifics you may is necessary to your application. We will likewise be happy to provide a sample piece for your testing. Additionally, ome more difference is the acquire difficulty of center-line porosity in the homo-polymer points. This visible center-line is caused by out gassing during manufacturing, and is generally found at the center or on the surface of all homo-polymer extrusion. This porosity can cause problemsz with machining or moisture permeation through information materials. The co-polymer resin does not have this porocity iddue. Some of the other differences are currently under physical properties of the resin. Examine the chart for some of the most popular properties people ask for while examining this industrial and mechanical material. Material is available as Dupont Delrin Rod, Acetal Round Rod, Delrin Blocks, Acetal Block, Delrin Sheet, Acetal Sheet, and Slabs. One of "the worlds largest" widely available and used plastic materials, especially on the West Coast (for some odd reason the East Coast customers like to use Nylon - Polyamide material more). Most commonly offered in Natural (White) or Black, but can also be produced in a wide range of colors with minimum orders. This will allow material matching your product coloring or for easy identification of finished pieces.
